Oh, the pressure of parenting. The judgmental fellow parents on social media, the know-it-all in-laws, and there’s the dietary restriction as well. Not too much sugar, must eat plenty of greens, and don’t forget the endless debate of when is the time to start giving solid food. Everyone needs a break from all the madness every now and then, and what better way to do that than a cup of smooth, silky gelato or ice cream for cheat day? Wanderbites team has picked ten spots to eat gelato and ice cream in Jakarta, and while not all are stroller-friendly, each place has at least some seats for you to sit down.
Whether you end up using this list of places to eat gelato and ice cream in Jakarta for the little ones, for yourself, or both, promise we’re not judging. Use it sparingly and definitely don’t go to all of these places in one day. We’re not responsible for any brain freeze and increased waistline.
1. Gaya Gelato
When it comes to conscious eating and dietary restrictions in consuming gelato, Gaya Gelato has to be on the top of the list. The Bali-origin gelato shop not only use premium quality natural ingredients with no added colorings and preservatives, but also label each flavor with dairy-free, gluten-free, eggs-free, or nut-free. Their crispy handmade cones are also free of eggs and dairy. If your kids (or you) suffer from any allergies mentioned above, this is where to go. Our favorite flavors: Fragola, Peanut Butter. Read more about Gaya Gelato here.
2. aROMA Gelato
aROMA Gelato caters to mall-hopper families, particularly frequent visitors of Senayan City, Kota Kasablanka, and PIM2. The gelato are also gluten-free. Our favorite flavors: Flower of Milk, Pistachio. Read more about aROMA here.
3. Gelato Secrets (ShopHaus)
This gelato artisan from Bali set up shop in ShopHaus Menteng around one year ago and opened a second outlet in Setiabudi One in August. If you’re all about sustainability and supporting the local economy (and keen on passing on your passion for it to your kids) Gelato Secrets is the one to visit. This slow food certified shop is committed in using 100% local natural ingredients sourced from local farmers. Our favorite flavors: Jasmine Tea (tastes just like Teh Botol), Vanilla with Bamboo Charcoal.
Planning for a day-to-night food fest in Pantai Indah Kapuk with your family? Latteria is our pick for some gelato creaminess. Expect rotating flavors with quirky names and taste like Colder Than Your Ex, Kecombrang, or Eskrim Dari Desa. At one point, Latteria also served Bubur Milna-flavored gelato. You and the kids are going to have so much fun. Our favorite flavors: Can’t choose! Let’s go crazy.

The two-year old gelateria is a local Italian-stye gelato artisan. Everything is made using fresh ingredients in small batches with no preservatives. ilVero periodically asks loyal customers for flavor input via social media, so if there’s any gelato flavor that you or your little one are wanting to try but can not find anywhere, try your luck here. Priced at IDR 30K for the medium cup (2 flavors), it is also one of the more pocket-friendly gelato choices from this list. Our favorite flavors: Crema, Mango.
Inspired by classic Indonesian flavors, Sore-Sore serves up funky ice cream variants such as STMJ (Susu Madu Telur Jahe) and Tolak Angin Chocomint. While that latter flavor probably won’t put a smile on your child’s face, there are always safer choices like Teh Susu Kue Marie and Es Cendol. Every scoop is served with an additional mini cone on top. Our favorite flavor: Teh Susu Kue Marie.
When looking for places to eat gelato and ice cream in Jakarta, GROM comes to mind immediately. Established in Turin in 2003, it was born out of the idea of creating gelato the old-fashioned way: fresh seasonal fruit, no thickening agents, no colorings. Similar to Gaya Gelato, GROM also has a complete information of possible allergens from each flavor. All the sorbets are vegan-friendly. GROM is undeniably the most premium-priced out of the bunch, but you get what you pay for. Our favorite flavors: Pistachio, Limone (made of 100% Siracusa Lemon).
8. Three Folks
We all love creamy gelato, but sometimes the different texture of a hard ice cream is just what the palate craves for. Three Folks offers you just that: a selection of innovative yet familiar hard ice cream flavor combinations. It’s important to note that the Cilandak outlet is bigger and more kids-friendly (complete with toys) compared to the one in Aries. Our favorite flavor: Black Citrus.

9. Let’s Go Gelato
Let’s Go Gelato’s story began in Bandung in mid 2016. It has now spawned four outlets in Bandung, two in Jakarta, and one in Medan. They constantly play with new flavors and join various pop-up markets all across the city. The Gandaria outlet is frequented by students from nearby schools, but don’t let it deter you from giving it a go. The flavors are on-point, the portion is generous, and the price is very reasonable. Our favorite flavors: Probiotic (Yakult), Thai Tea.
