It seems only yesterday 2017 greeted us with the first day of January, and here we are, approaching February. January has been a busy month for Jakarta’s culinary scene. There are numerous new F&B establishments in all sorts of variety. We’re sure there are one or two that we miss, so feel free to give us an input on the comment below. Without further ado, this is Fresh Bites (Jan 2017): Jakarta New Restaurant.

1. Bo & Bun PIK
You can now find Bo & Bun from Bali in PIK! They focus on serving classic Asian dishes with a modern twist, with an emphasis on Vietnamese cuisine. Beautiful place, great drinks. Read our review here.

2. Super Loco
Super Loco is a contemporary Mexican restaurant & bar, brought to you by Union Group & Singapore’s Loco Group. It is advised to reserve a place beforehand, because Jakarta foodies are currently flocking to this place like a bee to honey.

3. Seven Speed Coffee
More coffee coming your way at South Jakarta. Seven Speed Coffee may be petite in size, but it has a big personality. Look forward to loud chatters and cyclists hanging out. Leave your laptop at home.

4. La Maison Patisserie Jakarta
Medan’s famous macaron is now available in Jakarta. Watch out for their funky flavors such as Pineapple Crumble and Thai Tea. There also coffee by Common Ground Jakarta, and cakes. Limited number of seats, so be extra patient when you visit during weekend.

5. Mo-Mo-Paradise
The story of Mo-Mo-Paradise began in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, Tokyo in 1993. It then spread its wings to Taiwan in 2003, followed by Thailand, China, Vietnam, USA, Cambodia, and now Jakarta. They serve all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu.

6. Sweet Monster
Instantly recognizable from the cute monster gang mascot, Sweet Monster is an ice cream brand from South Korea. Their other famous product besides ice cream is popcorn, so make sure to try their ice cream with popcorn for toppings.

7. Port Five Six
Port Five Six is technically not in Jakarta, it is located in Gading Serpong area. They serve brunch menus and coffee in a minimalistic setting. Food by William Gozali.

8. Twenty Fifth Coffee
While we shall have to wait until our visit to Twenty Fifth Coffee to ask why it is named twenty fifth, and not twenty sixth, or twenty seventh, one thing’s for sure: it is all set to caffeinate your blood stream at Jalan Wijaya 1, South Jakarta.

9. ALU ALU Seafood & Dessert
To survive is to keep on evolving. The place that used house Shirayuki PIK has now changed into Alu Alu Seafood. It’s a joint effort between Live Seafood by Cabe Ijo Muara Karang and Shirayuki. Dessert is still available.

10. Semasa
There isn’t much information about what kind food and drink Semasa serves, except coffee. Located inside old Olveh Building at Kota Tua, expect vintage and colonial-style atmosphere. A few local products are also on display here, so don’t forget to bring extra cash.
