North Jakarta is, indeed, the new cool. Besides endless bakmi and specialty coffee options, Kelapa Gading is now also home to the selfie-worthy flamingo walls and flashy “Ended up at Monogram” purple neon signs at Monogram Bistro. Offering everything from brunch to booze, coffee to desserts, it hopes to be a one-stop destination for all of your F&B needs.
It’s not too much of a stretch to call Monogram Bistro and its combination of offerings as the first of its kind in Kelapa Gading. The booth seatings, honeycomb-patterned floors, and the whole vintage atmosphere are unlike any other spot in the area right now. Some would go as far as saying that Monogram is reminiscent of a number of establishments in South Jakarta.
Not stopping at attractive visuals, Monogram Bistro steps out of the comfort zone and tries to be adventurous with its food. Yes, Eggs Benedict and Salmon Steak show up to appease the classics, but there are real gems as well. The two stand-outs for us are Huevos Rancheros Served on Pan, plus Bacon, Chorizo, Potato Hash, and Everything Spice. Both are packed full of flavors that you don’t find outside Mexican or South American restaurants. We think Monogram can still improve the food overtime as the kitchen grows more consistent, but for now it’s a bit early to arrive at a solid opinion.
As for drinks, Monogram caters to all palates with an eclectic selection of coffee—including the fun Salted Caramel Popcorn Coffee—mocktails, juices, chocolate drinks, tea, and alcoholic beverages. The bar is open all day long, meaning it’s possible to get tipsy at 10 AM if you want to. No judging. Whenever you feel like deviating from the usual suspects, make sure to pick one of the showy signature cocktails, such as Monogram Tea Party or American Corn Delight, a go.
Think of Monogram Bistro as a representation of the current state of Kelapa Gading. You can find everything there. Whether you need a place to chill after a long day of work or gossip with your BFFs, in the mood for food or drinks, Monogram has it. The bistro opens until late at night and live music is available every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. A couple things naturally need fine-tuning in the first few weeks of service, but the future looks bright for Monogram.
