Doma Dona Coffee, Drawing Attention to Sulawesi Coffee

Doma Dona Review

You know there must be something good at Doma Dona Coffee when the first thing you notice is an awesome roasting room. Not to mention bags of freshly roasted coffee lining the shelf, ready for you to take home. The placement is upright saying that they are serious and proud of their craft, albeit without words. After tasting their coffee and knowing the story of Doma Dona Coffee, that unspoken claim is justifiable.

First of all, the people behind Doma Donna Coffee own a coffee plantation in Sulawesi. This means every bean from Sulawesi served in this coffee shop comes from their field. They then proceeded to roast it directly on the café, fresh for your enjoyment. The path from crop to cup is pretty clear.

On the manual brew bar, aside from the variety of Sulawesi beans—Toraja Minanga, Toraja Mamasa, and Toraja Sapan, among others—Doma Dona Coffee also outsource beans from other regions such as Flores and Aceh Gayo. Feel free to pick the method of your liking: Kalita, V60, or French Press. Meanwhile, espresso bar is stocked with a blend of two Toraja beans. Special mention goes to the barista for creating a great-tasting cup of cappuccino with adorable bear latte art that stays put for a long time with no bubbles at all.

Besides catering to the coffee enthusiasts, Doma Donna Coffee also reaches out to casual café hoppers with non-coffee options and food. There are tea, ice blended drinks, beer, and smoothies to pair with the Western-inspired dishes. Expect the like of Chicken Maryland—perfectly fried chicken and batter, savory cheese topping—and Fettucine Carbonara—all dente and not too creamy, just the way it should be.

Hidden gem is a term that has been used excessively in social media. I feel reluctant to use it, but for Doma Dona Coffee I’ll make an exception. It is a hidden gem. Not too much buzz, friendly and skillful staffs, great spotlight on Indonesian coffee, and decent food. Do yourself a favor and pay Doma Doma Coffee a visit when you’re in the area.
