Nitro Coffee Jakarta: Taking One Step at a Time

Nitro Coffee Jakarta Ciranjang Review

It’s always interesting to see a new coffee shop at early stages of inception. What they can do to stand out from other coffee shops. How to be different. Nitro Coffee Jakarta at Jalan Ciranjang, Kebayoran Baru is no exclusion.

Having visited the place twice before the soft opening day, we can tell that Nitro Coffee Jakarta is still on the path of finding out who they really are. The bad thing is your experience could very much be different from what is written here. The good thing is they want to improve, which means things could only get better from now on.

The first thing that jumps out from Nitro Coffee is the homemade pastry. While most coffee shops rely on outside produces, Nitro Coffee has their own talented chef who bakes killer cakes. Earl Grey Bread with a Hint of Lavender, for example, is something I can see myself having repeatedly. Delicate, moist, and addicting. Seasalt Brownies present a salty twist on the classic dish, while Red Velvet with Hazelnut Cream is up there with other top red velvets in Jakarta. And those Parmesan and Blackpepper Shortbread? Excuse me, do they come in a jar?

As for coffee, per last week, Nitro Coffee still has not yet decided on one house blend. On their Instagram, they nondescriptly say that they offer blends of beans from Kenya, Ethiopia, Brazil, and Sumatra. Between the two visits, we actually got different blends. The owner, who was also the barista, did not hesitate to come to our table and ask for opinion. Non-coffee enthusiasts will be directed to try their signature Black Sesame Latte—definitely not a drink I’ve seen at other coffee shops. Manual Brew is not yet available.

Nitro Coffee seems to be taking it one step at a time in honing their craft. Baby steps, slowly but surely. What we know is this: Nitro Coffee has all the ingredients of a good coffee shop. Always keen on improving and awesome cakes. And did I mention that the place is gorgeous? Memorable royal blue exterior (for times when you need to tell your Uber, Go-Jek, or Grab driver about your whereabouts), and sophisticated interior with New York City bar vibes. I’d say go all in, ditch the Bruno Mars and play some Esperanza Spalding ?
