I’d say it will be soon before long that Ombe becomes a verb among Northerners in casual conversation.
Ombe Kofie Pluit : Akhirnya Ada di Utara; March 27, 2015
When you see a product or a brand, and in this particular case a cafe, that is so good and everything somehow works, it’s not hard to see a bigger future for it from the start. You can see ahead of time that it will grow into more than just one cafe. This is the case with Ombe Kofie. Two years and a half after our article about its first establishment in Pluit, the statement above has become a reality. The coffee powerhouse has spawned a number of coffee shops, including Ombe Kofie Kelapa Gading. As one of the regulars, we are excited and more than happy being a witness to all of Ombe’s success.
The little things about Ombe stacks up and results in a admirable organic growth. Besides a good product, Ombe also benefits from a very close-knit offline community, the People of Ombe. Countless flowers, social media shout-outs, and visitations are common occurrences anytime Ombe opens a new place.
It’s reassuring to see that despite the expansion, Ombe Kofie is still staying true to its core as a friendly neighborhood coffee shop, giving customers a sense of familiarity to the Pluit home base. From the unpretentious barista to the homey interior, from the specialty coffee to the choices of menu, what you see is what you get, in the best way possible. Take a look at and have a taste of Ombe Kofie Kelapa Gading’s food selection and you will understand our point.
The menus arise from the desire to provide comfort food. Honest taste and nothing too fancy, but they keep you coming back for more. Simplicity is Ombe. Pulled Pork, in particular, is an absolute winner. Tender and juicy pork with great flavors in every bite, paired with fresh coleslaw and spicy mayo. Ombe Kofie Kelapa Gading also serves the ultimate Northerners’ Sunday morning menu to accompany your coffee time: Bakmi. People can say whatever they want, but this combo works like a well-oiled machine. Ombe is also opening its doors for health conscious people by offering smoothies, provided by Just Blend.
More than the food, Ombe Kofie Kelapa Gading’s looks are a little bit of everything from its brothers and sisters. The bar area is decorated with small tiles, reminiscent of Djule. Maarkeze shows up through leather seats and red bricks, while Ombe Pluit can be seen in the outdoor area and its flooring. Ombe shows that the old cliche is true—you don’t have to try to be someone else to be successful. Stay true to yourself, stick to your guns, and everything will work out just fine. The new Kelapa Gading outlet is a very natural extension to Pluit.
Not stopping at that, Ombe Kofie recently opens another outlet in Bekasi. We haven’t been there, but we believe this is another back to basics, classic Ombe modus operandi. Remember when Ombe first opened in Pluit at the time when no one had the guts to serve a IDR 40K specialty coffee? To brave the blue ocean instead of swimming in a red ocean. Bold move, Ombe. We’ll definitely keep both eyes open to see what’s next from you.
