Adele, you just got yourself a competition. Well, at least in my brain. When I see the number 25, no longer I will think solely of your Grammy-winning album. I will also think of Twenty Fifth Coffee & Kitchen, located at Jalan Wijaya I No. 25. They had their soft opening on January 25. A whole lotta twenty five that you don’t wonder anymore where they got the name.
While you won’t find any Adele music at Twenty Fifth Coffee & Kitchen—the music is mostly downtempo electro tunes—they have one thing in common: sexiness. I know, I know. It’s absurd to describe the physicality of a coffee shop as sexy, but it is. The way they play with blue and dark grey hues, eclectic patterns, vintage knick-knacks, and a touch of green plants? Somewhat mysterious. And sexy.
As a sibling of Parc 19 Bistro & Terrace, the next-door León, and the private lounge De La House, Twenty Fifth Coffee & Kitchen completes the variety of establishments under that same management group. It hopes to be a hub of Jakarta’s creative minds, where people can connect and collaborate. That wish is reflected in the way Twenty Fifth arranges and decorates their space. Motivational quotes. A separate smoking and non-smoking room. A choice of sofa and regular wooden chairs. Different seatings for different creative processes.
Every creative process needs a fuel. Twenty Fifth Coffee & Kitchen offers that in the form of Java and Toraja house blend coffee, roasted by Coffee Smith Jakarta. While the cappuccino (IDR 35K) might not leave a lasting impression in terms of taste, the coffee certainly gets its job done. Besides coffee, they also serve chocolate and tea latte.
What gets me more excited than the coffee is the food. Twenty Fifth Coffee & Kitchen has a choice of appetizers, breakfast classics, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, and rice dishes. Per the staff’s recommendation, our pick fell to Three Cheese Burger (IDR 85K)—150 gr beef patty, Cheddar cheese, Roquefort cheese, and Mozzarella cheese. The beef patty was super moist and juicy, and the cheeses added a savory, comforting taste in a non-overpowering way. It could use some french fries and fresh veggies like tomato and lettuce, especially considering the price, but I was pretty happy with the dish. Definitely curious to try other menus. If your purse doesn’t agree with the food price, you can always opt for the pastries: puff, mini cronuts, mini donuts, etc. Or the gelato.
As with any other new establishment, at the end of every visit, I always ask “What’s next?” Only Twenty Fifth Coffee & Kitchen can answer that, but if they truly live by their own words, printed on the table by the window, “ To improve is to change, to be perfect is to change often,” then they would be just fine. At one month old, this place seems to be doing great. Food is plenty. Coffee and Wi-Fi are available. It’s still the sexiest coffee shop I’ve been in a while. Can’t wait to see what else they have in store.
