The place sells hamburger.
The color palette is red and yellow.
If you immediately think of the world-famous hamburger fast food chain, think again, because Jakarta now has its very own red and yellow burger joint at Senopati, South Jakarta. Say hello to Flip Burger!
Flip Burger is managed by people who run the successful Holycow! steak house, hence the great buzz in social media since its opening last month. There is so much excitement that it completely ran out of stock on a number of lunches. It’s not surprising that these days the queue is pretty long, especially on weekends, considering the place is small.
The menu is, much the same as the restaurant, quite simple. 4 different types of burger: Smacker, Double Cheese, Cheese, and Fish. Two types of fries in addition to Chicken Finger and Chicken Skin. Drinks are the usual fizzy sodas, tea, and water. Just like your typical fast food joint. No fuss.
Does the juiciness of the burgers live up to the hype?
It is a consensus among our group of 5 that the signature Smacker Burger needs more flavor in its patty. Despite the generosity of giving two beef patties and two slices of beef bacon that are supposed to be salty in nature, the burger surprisingly tastes sweet. There is no element that cuts through the grease and the sweetness of the caramelized onions; it could use some more salt and lettuce. The saving grace is the nicely toasted top bun. I love that part!
The Fish Burger performs a bit better, although I find myself missing the slight acidity that usually comes from the tartar sauce. We also give the side dishes a try, and the most noteworthy is the Chicken Skin. It’s always a great time when you can munch on crispy, salty deep fried chicken skin. Flip Burger has done a great job with that one.
So is it a straight up flippin’ good burger? Have I converted into a flipster? I don’t think so. Having said that, when I’m around the area, perhaps I’ll be back for that Chicken Skin.
