Who would have thought that the good ol’ childhood snack Genjie Pie would make it into the mall as a full blown store? Well I guess anything can happen nowadays. As a fan of the particular Nissin’s snack, I have no complaints. I headed there all the way to find what was the fuzz all about this new talk-of-the-town spot.
Out in the open entrance of Pondok Indah Mall 3, you’ll find a white shop covered with colorful paintings and scribbles from Jakarta’s renown artist like Lala Bohang and Muhammad Taufiq. That’s the eye catchy Genji Shoppe in PIM and to sum it in one word: Instagenic!
Not only do they sell desserts made from Genji Pie with assortment of toppings, they also go as far as producing goodies like iPhone / iPad covers. Branding, branding, branding but who minds when it’s all done classy and subtly. I guess they succeeded real well in that.
As Jakarta has been pretty sunny lately, the only thing I want to grab right away was their combo of Genjie Pie and ice cream. On the plate was Hazelnut and Cream Cheese ice cream from Spiky Smooth. I must admit the mix of both was pretty awesome. I think I’m gonna start putting Genjie’s whenever I have ice cream at home. It adds crunchy texture and extra sweetness that’s perfect when eaten together.
More than a taste on the tongue, it took me to my childhood in a way. I still remember how mom would stock up on snacks and hide it somewhere so that us kids won’t oversnack. It amazes me how the packaging is still the same back then as it is now. I think its about time to grow though. Dear Nissin, modern packaging with me as your food photographer maybe? =p
Well anyway, in that weekend I went back twice just to appreciate its goodness. Give it a try and let me know how you enjoyed it, peeps.
