Call it gimmicky or whatever you want, but let me tell you this: Madagaskar Plaza Senayan is one hella fun, over-the-top place. One might have seen photos of it and thought “Oh, it’s just another themed restaurant.” A visit is necessary to truly appreciate the size, the atmosphere, and the attention to details that is required to create Madagaskar.
Imagine two floors of jungle-like atmosphere complete with faux elephants, giraffes, apes, monkeys, and birds. Those animals are not only present in almost-real-size, but also move and make sounds. If not for the cool AC, one could easily forget that Madagaskar Plaza Senayan is indeed a restaurant in a shopping mall and not a dense jungle somewhere in Africa.
With everything it has to offer, it’s no surprise that Madagaskar Plaza Senayan is quite the hit among children and families. Even during lunch on a weekday, the place is full of children running around and making googly eyes towards the roaring tiger. It also helps that the staffs are friendly and the gap between tables are big enough for strollers to pass through.
Madagaskar Plaza Senayan offers a wide choices of Western-inspired menu. Expect the likes of salad, soup, pasta, pizza, steak, and burger. Other than that, there are a number of Indonesian dishes thrown in for good measure. Kids’ menu are available as well.
Coming with no expectation, we have to say we are pleasantly surprised by Red Volcanic Wings, crunchy chicken wings coated with special hot and sour buffalo sauce. It is packed full of flavors and the sauce is finger-licking good. Oceanic Garlic Olio Pasta is also a decent plate of spaghetti served with salmon, scallops, and prawns. The generous portion is worth the price.
Should you come to Madagaskar Plaza Senayan exclusively for the food? Perhaps not, but come with an open mind and you’ll find yourself munching the food happily. The extravagant decor is indeed the highlight, and your children (and perhaps, you as well) are definitely going to be impressed by it.
