The beauty of Thai food for me is its very close resemblance to our Indonesian cuisine. From the various use of spices to the heavy tasting flavors. ‘Medok’ as we called it. One particular dish would have like 7% more on a particular taste, either sweet, salty, or spicy. That being said, having a Thai fare is almost interchangeable as having Indonesian and subconsciously I already have a shortlist of favorite Thai restaurant in Jakarta. Aside from Jittlada, Chandara & Ying Thai, Otterhound Jakarta is climbing up the chart too.
While the first two is more on the top end of the market, Otterhound is more for your daily casual dining option. Prices start from IDR 55K on the mains which make it easy on the pocket. I can also safely say that even at that price tag, coming from the same group as Jittlada, taste is definitely not the thing they sacrifice. That much is true at least from these menus that I had.
Their Grilled Beef Skewer (IDR 65K – picture shown above) for instance is a must order for appetizer. Very well marinated, just enough tenderness with extra smokiness that charm your palate and your nose in one go. Or, try their Massaman Curry Spaghetti (IDR 80K). It is unlike any pasta I’ve tasted before. The sauce is nutty, curry-like and sweet. The thick chunks of beef is a plus. Just from these two alone is enough to make me want to come back. But let me share with you one last menu I had.
Sakoo Piek (IDR35K). As a dessert, this coconut sagu is a perfect sweet closure after all the strong tasting mains.
Now, one other thing that I also like from Otterhound is their interior. This particular quote especially: “Eating is like traveling, there’s no limit to it.”
