Location: Senayan City Mall, South Jakarta. Time: 11:45 AM. It is a typical hot sunny Thursday in Jakarta, but the mall is as cool as always. As lunch time is approaching, you can observe some office workers lurking around, looking for a place to eat. A line has formed in front of Saladstop!, the salad specialist that came from Singapore to Jakarta just last year. During our visit, that mostly-women and Ojek Online drivers filled line hardly wane in number.
Although it is definitely not my first visit to Saladstop! Jakarta, every time I still feel positively overwhelmed by the variety of salad that they provide. Twelve signature salads, three classics, three warm quinoa bowls, not to mention the option to create-your-own. That basically means you can come every day for a month and literally order a different type of salad at each visit if you wish.
At the risk of sounding like a very basic person, I have to say that Hail Caesar Salad is the dish I’ve been coming back for repeatedly. The mountain of fresh romaine in the mix between beef bacon, parmesan, eggs, and croutons, plus the creamy sauce, tastes like the first gulp of water after a 5K run. I’ve eaten a lot of Caesar salads, but this one resides among my favorites not only based on the taste, but also because the way the vegetables are cut: not too big, and not too small. Just right. Finished with my favorite topping, the tempeh chips, it’s also a texturally-fun menu.
For times when you prefer something spicier, Oh Crab Lah! can be an option. This romaine-based salad heroes Singapore Chili Crab alongside crab sticks, vermicelli, and cherry tomatoes. Whatever your salad preference is, you’ll bound to find something that suits your liking at Saladstop! Jakarta. Each menu is carefully labeled with possible allergens that it contains, making the life of those suffering from allergies easier. They will even chop the ingredients of your salad with a different board and knife if you inform them about your allergy.
Price-wise, one might think that Saladstop! Jakarta is more on the expensive side, but do consider the high quality of ingredients, how the vegetables are triple-washed with clean drinking water, and the generous portion. One bowl of Hail Caesar can make me go from super hungry to super full. More importantly, it makes me feel somewhat less guilty of that cake I had last night.
As proudly displayed on the walls of its Senayan City outlet, Saladstop! has a mission for people to eat wide awake. To be more conscious of what goes inside your mouth, both in terms of where the ingredients of the food comes from and being sure that it is indeed something beneficial for your body. Saladstop! also promises that ingredients take less than 72 hours to get to your bowl. Their veggies seem to be sourced from a local farmer in Cibadak, West Java. I believe Saladstop! has done a great job in living up to its own ideals and introducing customers to the concept of conscious eating. Keep doing what you’re doing Saladstop!. I like you, and I hope other people do too.
