Saudagar Kopi Sabang : Good Things Come In Small Size

Is there any cafe hopper here? The ones who just never seem to get tired of hopping from one coffee shop to another coffee shop. If you are, welcome aboard. We’re on the same team and as I review them one by one you can see the full list of Jakarta’s Coffee Shop here.

Saudagar Kopi in Sabang is one of the few that manages to make the most out of life. Why so? One of my life’s mantra is “Do what you can, where you are, with what you have” and they did exactly that. I enjoy being with people who are in the same wavelength.

If you see ABCD (A Bunch Of Coffee Dealers) in Pasar Santa who makes a big difference from a tiny square in a traditional market, then Saudagar Kopi is a tad bit luckier. In a 3×15 area they squeeze in a coffee bar with La Marzocco and tables for not more than 20 people. Reminds me of Maison Ikkoku in Singapore or Bear Pond in Tokyo. There’s something exciting about small space that’s not claustrophobic. And I like Saudagar Kopi for that.

Refreshing Kopi Kocok ala Saudagar Kopi

What’s good here? Between their Kopi Kocok (Signature Ice Coffee) and their Cappuccino frankly I’m having a hard time to decide. I’ll take both of them. Brewing local Indonesian coffee, you’ll find Toraja Sapan and another variety from Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur here.

If you’d like to take your time longer in the cafe, there’s food and light bites available. From fried banana to noodles, they are all priced realistically at less than IDR 30K. Of course, there’s always a better alternative. You’re already on Sabang and streetfood options are aplenty around here. You can always eat first before coming here for an epilogue session.

Now, head on to Saudagar Kopi if you happen to be in the area or trying to find an escape during Jakarta’s traffic hour. Sip the coffee, cool down and enjoy the ambience.

Cheers from fellow cafe-hoppers,
