Skeptical, I was.
I don’t blame Shirayuki PIK though, it’s many others who are trying to steal your money by serving practically multi-colored-and-flavored-sugar. Frankly I would rather go for BreadLife’s IDR 4.000 or Wendy’s IDR 5.000 soft-served ice cream any time of the day instead. At least they are not ripping you off that much.
Shirayuki PIK though is a different case I’d say. Take their Bailey’s Kanten for instance. Its Jell-O like texture added with Baileys sauce is an easy pleaser. But more than that, what gets me going is their matcha ice cream with a slight bitterness at the end. That’s how I remember matcha is suppose to be. With matcha that are imported directly from Japan, you can subtly feel that distinction.
It also has on its menu main courses that ranges from Japanese Kushikatsu to East-meet-West pasta. It’s not just dessert and that’s how I like it.
My personal favorite among the Kushikatsu is Spicy Lotus Roots and Spicy Shiitake Chicken. The first for its unusual texture and its not common to find here in Jakarta. The second for its combination of sweet, savory and that extra crunch from Shiitake. I’d say even without the sauce they are tasty enough, but like most Asian tongue, I suppose you’d like that extra flavor from their sweet and sour sauce.
Last but not least on my tasting list was their signature Cabe Ijo Blanco. Its Shirayuki PIK’s rendition of Indonesian style spaghetti with chopped green chili and tiger prawn. The pasta was cooked right and the mix of seasonings I’d say it would be loved by those who are into spicy food.
Armed with good food & enjoyable dessert, Shirayuki PIK has already been gaining massive popularity around the neighborhood. So be prepared to queue in line on weekends. I’d suggest to drop by here on weekdays where it is much more ‘civilized.
As for me, that skepticism was proven to be a mistake.
