King George Daikanyama : Sandwich x Cocktails

Daikanyama neighborhood win my eye’s and heart’s approval right on my first visit. Even when you’re in the subway station you’ll notice the difference. I hear more people speaking in English. I see well-dressed bunch everywhere. Not to mention the quiet pedestrian walks, the huge Tsutaya bookstore and their parks.

I stumbled upon King George Daikanyama and just couldn’t miss the half-white half-greens wall along the main street. The entrance is very well designed to probe your curiosity and the next I know is I’m already on the second floor looking at the menu.

King George Daikanyama live two lives, one that offers simple healthy sandwich and drinks and another that’s basically a cocktail bar at night. On our visit, we had their specialty: King George Sandwich. It is one generously portioned sandwich. The biggest I’ve tasted by far. Two slice of rye bread with smoked turkey, tomato, provolone and tons of lettuce, enough to fill your daily need for fiber. Even when its cut in two, I still find it hard to finish alone. It might suit better for expats who populate the upscale area.

This sandwich bar also has an open rooftop area which makes a great spot to sit and chill while waiting for the sunset. I recommend this place especially for those who are into sandwich. While it doesn’t come cheap (1200 Yen), it is worth two meals if you’re eating it alone.

Their smoothies are also top notch. We only tried their Vanilla Banana, but from that one alone, I can say they are serious about their drinks. If the universe allows, I’ll definitely comeback for their cocktail. Word on the street, one of the guy behind the bar is a former mixer for Moet. That’s the stamp of approval right there.

Cheers
