November 2017. The month that marked the opening of Jakarta’s much-hyped Museum MACAN also brought you at least seven spots of new restaurant & cafe in Jakarta. The recurring themes that can be traced back to previous editions of Fresh Bites are coffee and Japanese food, with a touch of mango dessert. Hopefully you’ll find this list useful for your food-hunt this weekend.
1. Open Quarter
Good news for those of you who work or go to school around MidPlaza, because another coffee shop has just opened: Open Quarter. The place does not look too big and only a couple of seats are available, but it seems to be a great spot to purchase your coffee to-go.
Address: MidPlaza 2, Basement Floor, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Central Jakarta
2. Tom Sushi
Tom Sushi offers an affordable selection of sushi in kaiten (conveyor belt) style. Located right next to Yamatoten Abura Soba Grand Indonesia.
Address: Grand Indonesia East Mall Level LG, Central Jakarta
3. Mango Tango
One more mango-based concoction is coming your way: Mango Tango at Puri Indah Mall. Although the name is exactly the same with the famous mango dessert shop in Thailand, there is no evidence that the two are connected.
Address: Puri Indah Mall, 2nd Floor, West Jakarta
After a year of selling cakes and cookies online, Ignasia’s opened a dessert shop in PIK in mid November. Ignasia’s also offers healthy smoothies bowls in its new home.
Address: Ruko Cordoba Blok D No. 15, Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta
5. Dotto Coffee
Named after the Japanese pronunciation of the word “dot”, Dotto Coffee (the logo is stylized as do++o.) inevitably draws inspiration from Japan and its thoughtfulness in creation. With cups stamped with the + sign, it hopes to add value to your day with a cup of coffee.
Address: Jalan Benda 54B, South Jakarta
Okuzono is newly opened Japanese restaurant in Senopati area. Expect well-designed atmosphere—think mini zen slash bamboo garden—and quirky Japanese food that includes tea-marinated beef and tako karaage.
Address: Jl. Suryo No. 1, South Jakarta
7. Timbre Coffee
There is not much information about Timbre Coffee at the moment, but it might be your new favorite spot for es kopi susu in North Jakarta.
Address: Pluit Sakti Raya No. 91, North Jakarta
