Walking out of Cocobeet Jakarta at Senayan City while carrying a bag filled with a whole grain sandwich and cold-pressed juices, I can’t help but feeling a little proud of myself for picking such a healthy lunch. It’s hard not to get impressed by what’s written on Cocobeet’s green brochure. Big words like raw, vegan, and sustainable are spewed out here and there, hooking customers with the conviction that Cocobeet is nutritious and good for you.
Hailing from Boston, Cocobeet Jakarta comes with an array of signature cold-pressed juices, juice cleanse packages, nut milks, spreads, sandwiches, smoothie bowls, and all-day breakfast. The latter two are made-to-order while the rest are pre-packaged after being freshly made in-house. There are some of menus that you can rarely find in Jakarta right now, such as Pumpkin Pie and Zoodles (zucchini noodles).
While the outlet has a couple of tables and around fifteen chairs for customers to sit on, considering the openness of the space, it is more comfortable and practical to simply grab and go. Thus, we do exactly just that.
Having tried a number of the cold-pressed juices, I think it’s safe to say that in general Cocobeet has done a great job in balancing the flavors and providing customers with variety. For instance, Biome Builder satisfies those who prefer zingy flavors with its pineapple, apple cider vinegar, lemon, and lime content. Kickstart serves the antioxidant-rich beetroot, balanced by the flavors of carrot, apple, ginger, and lemon.
I am also pleasantly surprised by the avocado, tomato, lettuce, and chipotle whole grain sandwich. I did not expect it to be that tasty, but apparently my palate agrees with the taste combination of avocado meets creamy chipotle, and the crunchiness from lettuce. The menu also does not cause any post-lunch sleepiness, which is definitely a plus point.
Veganism, vegetarianism, and their extended family are somewhat of uncharted territory for me. Perhaps no one will ever hear me asking whether a plate of food is gluten-free or not. Having said that, I’m really happy with my experience at Cocobeet Jakarta and will not hesitate to come back again to try out other menus. More vegan food? Most definitely yes.
