Hello morning people, you just got yourself a new place to start your day: Morningville Eatery Jakarta at Jalan Wijaya. As proven by the growing list of cafes that open before 10 AM, there are more places than ever that can satiate your need for morning hustle. Although one would expect an earlier operational hour based on the chosen name, for now, Morningville Eatery caters to your need every day starting 9 AM.
While the space certainly feels less put-together compared to its other neighbors such as Doma Dona Coffee or Twenty Fifth, Morningville Eatery still has its own charm. The forest green sofas are pretty comfy for sitting down for a long time, and the noncommittal EDM that plays in the background makes it easy for you to tune out whenever you need to concentrate. However, when you’re looking for a place to work, skip the communal table with bar-style stools. The imbalance of heights between the table and the chair is not ideal for typing on a laptop.
As for food, Morningville Eatery Jakarta serves interesting choices of all day brunch menu with a couple of crowd-pleaser dishes like steak and pasta thrown in between. There is also a selection of coffee, tea, and juice to satisfy different palates.
I’ve never heard of griddlecakes before, so naturally, Honey Bacon Griddlecakes gets a shot on our table. A number of top hits on Google search leave me with no clear information on the difference between a griddlecake and a pancake, so I have to assume the two are the same. Or at least closely related. Although the griddlecake itself is a bit dry, the honey butter provides a nice sweet-savory relief. Served with beef bacon, granola, banana, strawberries, and honey comb, the dish has a fun texture and an overall sweet profile. I would categorize Honey Bacon Griddlecakes as a potentially great dish. There are too many elements, causing the plate to feel too crowded.
For those of you who prefer something healthier, Morningville Eatery also has two options of smoothie bowls. One of them is Banana Berry Smoothie Bowl. It serves blended frozen berries and banana as a base, topped with granola, strawberries, chia seeds, and edible flowers. Perhaps what stands out the most is the fact that the smoothies are served on a plate, rather than in a bowl as the name suggested. Unusual yet unique presentation, but the flavor is familiar, if not a touch sweeter than the usual smoothies. The portion also feels a bit smaller compared to a similar dish at other cafes.
Morningville Eatery Jakarta has lots of potentials. Its prime location in the same building as Conclave Co-working Space makes it a prime spot for workers to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The spacious area is also great for meetings or small events. The food also looks promising, although it needs better execution. But it is important to remember that Morningville in only a little over two weeks old at this point, which means there is a room for improvement. The cafe has most of the ingredients to be successful, and as long as they strive to do better, keep your fingers crossed that better things will come.
