Gelato is, indeed, not ice cream. Gelato is served on a higher temperature compared to ice cream, allowing your tongue to experience more intense flavor. Other than that, gelato is churned slower, giving it a denser texture. It also contains more milk to cream ratio, in contrast to ice cream.
And no, in case you’re wondering, we did not source that from Google. The gelato-to-ice-cream comparison chart is framed on the blue walls of Ziato Gelato Kemang, reassuring customers that Ziato has the chops to back up its declaration as a gelato artisan. After tasting some of the creations, we’re happy to report that Ziato pairs that knowledge with an even more important point: good, solid choices of flavors.
As written on the digital menu on the cashier counter, Ziato Gelato Kemang has 35 variety of gelato and sorbet, and the display case can contain up to 16 flavors at a time. Pistacchio and Nocciola (hazelnut) are perfectly creamy and nutty, in par with any other gelato-specialist in the city. Lemon Sorbetto is fresh and not too tart. Although I personally would have loved a stronger lemon kick, it is a safe choice for those of you who usually shy away from this strong sorbet flavor. Meanwhile, Sour Cherry tastes like a unique mix of cherry and vanilla. Despite its name, it’s quite sweet and not too sour.
Other than gelato, Ziato Gelato Kemang offers light bites such as Banana Cake, Beef Bruschetta, and Macaroni al Forno. The home-made Chicken Pesto Panini tastes decent, but more importantly it is quite fulfilling for hunger emergencies. The spacious gelateria also has Wi-Fi, and we’ve seen photos on social media of people having meetings and small events, including a bridal shower and a birthday party. It is located on the second floor, so keep that in mind when you plan to bring your children (and the stroller).
Whenever you find yourself around the area and in need of a scoop of gelato, come to Ziato Gelato Kemang. Let us know if you happen to encounter one of its more experimental flavors like Ubi Cilembu. We are curious about that one 😉
