Think less, Fillmore

Do you often get lost in your own thoughts? Trying to rationalize everything instead of just stopping for a moment and taking a deep breath. I know I do. It’s impossible not to in the 21st century. Sometimes in the middle of the day, you just want to take a break and stop. Now that’s when I would go and visit Fillmore Coffee.MICH4717

MICH4712Fillmore isn’t like the coffee shops you’d find in malls, it’s one of those small coffee shops hidden in the corner that makes you feel at home. Perhaps it’s that sense of solitude that creates a homey atmosphere or maybe the neon sign that says “I am home” on the wall.MICH4731On their menu you would find the unique Gibraltar which is said to originate from the beloved San Fransisco. It’s similar to a normal latte, but with way less milk. I decided to opt for their honey latte, a drink I have never seen in any other coffee shops in Jakarta. Certainly, I did not regret my choice. Although I could only taste a hint of honey, the sweetness and acidity of the coffee is perfectly balanced followed by a nutty aftertaste. Their “Galette de Rois” a pastry with almond filling, was enough to substitute their absence of heavy meals on the menu and perfect to accompany my hot honey latte that afternoon. On the grinding machine you would find freshly roasted beans from Curious People, a name familiar to those who often visit the Native coffee shop at Pantai Indah Kapuk.MICH4715Like a home where you can find everything you need, Fillmore does the same for coffee enthusiasts. You can change your milk to soy milk, they have honey coffee for those who prefer their coffee sweet but with no processed sugar, the classic espresso, and even smoothie bowls. Yes smoothie bowls. I’m not sure why coffee shops in Jakarta lately start to put smoothie bowls in their menu but hey, I ain’t complainin. It’s a good alternative to the usual savory snacks. With so many choices, how do you not feel at home where you can enjoy the moment the way you want it?MICH4684

MICH4740With all that in mind, being in Fillmore Coffee is almost like an invitation to slow down, take your time to enjoy your coffee, clear the thoughts. Well pretty much to think less and feel more. In the 21st century, it’s impossible to refuse that invitation.
