You have an endless love affair with Japanese food. You wish you could eat sushi every Monday and Wednesday, donburi every Tuesday and Friday, plus ramen the rest of the week without spending all of your paycheck. Wait. What if we told you that your dream could be a reality?
Affordable Japanese food places have been popping out here and there, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Here are five of ‘em, hope you’ll find it useful during cases of Japanese food cravings. Happy hunting!
A whole foodcourt dedicated to affordable Japanese food? Genie has granted your wish with PIK Avenue’s Dotonbori. Here, the possibility is endless: from donburi to taiyaki ice cream, from sushi to kushiage. Our favorite is the ultra-affordable assorted sushi that costs IDR 59K and contains 19 (nineteen!) nigiri and maki pieces. Click here to read more about what Dotonbori has to offer.

2. Papaya Fresh Gallery
For a true Japanese konbini experience, Papaya Supermarket is the place to be. The food section is lined with affordable bento (starting IDR 35K), fried korokke, and onigiri, to name a few. Expect decent food with pocket-friendly prices and generous portions. I still remember having stomachache from trying to finish all the white rice inside Papaya’s bento. Read the complete story here. Tanpopo is the pioneer of Japanese food on the streets of Jakarta. Located at Gandaria and Cikini area, it embraces the spirit of Japanese yatai, a food stall that pops out every evening. While the individual price for each dish is friendly (Beef Hamburg costs you IDR 30K, for example), make sure not to go overboard and start ordering everything. Don’t say we didn’t warn ya’! 4. Go Katsu
Katsu meets nabe. That’s how I would define Go Katsu at Plaza Senayan food court. Serving affordable sets (price starts at IDR 35K) complete with white rice, crackers, and miso soup, Go Katsu is a solid choice for one of those confusing “What to eat for today’s lunch?” days. What you get is pretty good for the price. Available for purchase via ojek. Read more about Go Katsu here.

Although focused on everything sushi, Furuto also offers a couple of donburi dishes. The price of the sushi set is not the most affordable out of the bunch when compared to the amount of food that you get, but I really like the nicely made sushi rice. You can always opt for the individually sold sushi when you don’t feel like eating a lot. Full review coming up real soon ?
