Kakolait Gading Serpong: Chocolate-Timing

Kakolait Gading Serpong Review

Ever since I watched Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, I have always imagined how it would feel like to visit a place like the factory. Fifteen years later, meet Kakolait Gading Serpong. A café dedicated to supplying customers with everything related to chocolate. Not as massive as the chocolate factory, but remove the fantasy part, and it becomes a pretty good representation.

Level 2

Almost four months after its opening, Kakolait Gading Serpong remains tall and strong amongst the endless battle of coffee shops. At 3 PM on a weekday, at least five tables are filled with cocoa-seekers on the first floor. Perhaps it’s a sign that the industry needs more non-coffee specialty cafés.

Aside the allure of chocolate, another important charm of Kakolait has got to be the view. Pick a table by the window and you’ll be rewarded with sights of green trees and a river (a bit murky, but it’ll do), a nice change from malls and cars. Add that with a steady flow of raindrops, and Kakolait becomes the perfect place for a cup of hot chocolate.

They offer two types of Classic Hot Chocolate (IDR 35K), dark and milk. For the gloomy day, our pick fell to the dark one. It came with a beautiful cocoa-art on top, served inside a beautiful cup. The taste was too sweet for our liking, especially considering it was the dark version. We also had waffles (IDR 65K), customizable with your own choice of add-ons: fruits, marshmallow, cornflakes, pretzel, or chocolate shot. While the waffle was very dry, the super fresh strawberry and the ice cream toppings became a saving grace. If you’re not in the mood for those two, Kakolait also offer milkshakes, fruit juices, coffee, tea, and a few other small bites.

Clean, clean, clean

I think everyone can agree that Kakolait Gading Serpong is a breath of fresh air in Jabodetabek’s culinary scene. A local café that highlights chocolate? I can think of no other that has done the same. The two-story building is styled beautifully and the view is also refreshing, which are always a plus. Here’s wishing that Kakolait will only keep on improving, especially in terms of food and beverage.
