I arrived in Singapore that day with a purposefully emptied belly. I dropped my baggage in my hotel in Chinatown area. My mind is already fixated with the thought of munching delicious hawker food in Hong Lim Center. All is good, until I realize I missed one little yet important fact. At 3PM in the afternoon most of the stalls are already closed.
I hunted each floor like a fat boy craving for chocolate and finally my radar pick up a pleasing smell right next to the stairs. It was almost like in TV ads where the actor would walk subconsciously to where the food are, like someone cast a spell on him. Imagine that scene was me and Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee.
How do I know its better to go with Ah Heng Curry Chicken? When in doubt, look at the lines.
And at that time a number of people are already in the queue. This must be worth the wait. And indeed, it was.
The gravy curry was coconut-ty thick with a powerful yet mesmerising smoky aroma that I can’t manage to decipher what it is. You’ll know it when you try it. Not stopping at that, the generous amount of curry-soaked Tau Pok (fried beancurd) and fishcake adds to the happy calories in Ah Heng Curry Chicken. It is oily, but not the the extent that it clotted your throat.
Oh wait, did I forget the chicken? They comes in thick slices of chopped meat like the ones you’ll get on a chicken rice. Moist and tender.
All the ingredients adds up to one bowl of belly-satisfying curry. Worth every calories!
